We had an amazing day aboard the Mole. The barge had a small kitchen toilet, running water cold and hot. It also had a shower but we where only on a day trip so not needed. There was a lovely seating area at the front and an inside seating area. The barge was very clean and was a joy to be on. The staff where excellent really attentive and helpful. They where really approachable especially the manager hes such a nice guy and nothing was too much trouble. I also got a lovely cuppa whilst we waited for the barge to be cleaned. I can't wait to go again. I might make a few days of it next time as they also hire boats for longer trips and have bigger barges with sleeping compartments. If you want to have a go but your not sure go down and meet the staff they will put your mind at ease and make sure you have a great day trip or holiday.

Last minute booking of the dayboat \"Badger\" for a beautiful summer-like day in February 2019. Booking process was quick and painless. Greeted on arrival, and our friendly and knowledgeable guide adjusted the induction to suit our experience. Boat was very nicely fitted out and we'll equipped with seating areas, kitchen (cooker, hob, oven, grill, sink, fridge) and toilet plus a shower! Front seating area can convert into a bed for two for overnight hires (hence the shower). A log burning stove kept the interior cosy. Boat appeared to be well maintained and had recently been fitted with a new engine. In comparison to other boats we've hired the engine seemed noisier (but the boat created very little wake) and the toilet area would be difficult for a larger person to use as it was compact. The Ashby Canal is lock free, so ideal for those just wanting to cruise, and passes through some beautiful countryside. We comfortably managed a return trip from the hire base to bridge 53 at Shackerstone in the 7.5hr hire period. We didn't stop for lunch though and cooked on board, plus we only met 4 other boats all day and water levels were high. With numerous narrows and the canal going quite shallow, you'd get nowhere near that far in summer if you had to pass more boats or the water levels were lower. Highly recommended.
